Symphonicity

The Metropolitan Opera House at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan featured Sting with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on July 13th and 14th. The show was called Symphonicity. I watched the July 14th show.

I knew the place was going to be opulent, however I opted to be comfortable and chose a dark jean pants and cotton top that accommodated by growing belly. I was not going to wear something classy if I was going to take the bus and subway for a long ride to the city. I got off at the Lincoln Center stop of the local 1 train and immediately went in to Met. The high ceilings with its sparkling chandeliers invited new comers to look up and admire the place's grandeur. Most, but not all were in their cocktail dresses, however a few did show up in casual clothes, so I did not feel to bad with what I was wearing.
I was ushered to my seat which was the 26th from the aisle of the 10th row to the right of the stage. I had a good vantage point sans the big head of the man in font of me. *sigh. I can't remember if the show started on time but I remembered when Sting walked on the stage. My heart did a flutter. He still has it. It was like coming home. His repertoire was perfect for the symphony conducted by Steven Mercurio, except when they played Next to You which sounded contrived. I sat most of the timed in awe of the music and voice from the artist I have admired for years. I cannot put into words the trance-like sensation it brought me. I left the show happy, happy that I brought my baby to its first concert with Sting at the Met.
