For about a week now, I would go home and walk through my front door entangled with spider's web. Being that it is often dark outside by the time I get home, I would just shake it off. Growing up in rural Philippines, I never gave it a second thought.
One evening, as Michael came home,I saw him entangled with the same web I had all over my face earlier that night.
"Look at that spider! It's ginormous!" He said while trying to pick off the web from his face and shoulders.
Fleetingly I saw a large spider about a size of a dime scurrying up to the awning.
Yesterday, I came home the usual way: through my front door. I didn't notice anything different until later that eveningwhen I dragged Michael to go out for dinner with me. When I got out of the house, that's when I saw this spider. He wove a perfectly symmetrical web right below the apex of the awning at my door -- and this time the anchors are out of my way. Huh.
Perfect!
This morning he was not there. I thought maybe he was tired of seeing his hard work be demolished on a nightly basis. Tonight I saw him again. Same spot. Michael and I were on our way out to get ice cream at 10:30pm.
"What should we name him?" I asked Michael.
"Sam" He answered as if he has thought of it for quite some time now.
Sam it is.
