Pain
I held my son's arm tightly lest he move it while being poked by a needle. Ms Hazel's hands looked like it was trembling. He cried and wiggled once he felt the needle and Ms Hazel assured me that it doesn't hurt after that first sting. I looked at his tiny arm and the needle. Ms. Hazel couldn't find the vein and she had to move the needle several times to get blood. I saw Michael cringe and look away. He too cannot stand to see his son cry in pain. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, she stopped and blood started oozing down to fill the test tube. I slowly let go of my grip on Xavier's hand. It was painful to watch him cry in pain like that. I am glad that they have such short memory that he will soon forget about it. The ordeal probably lasted only 5 minutes, but I felt drained afterwards. Michael took him in his arms. He has calmed down and realized that it was over.
